The word Nitnem (⍍ā¨ŋ⍤⍍āŠā¨Ž) is composed of two Punjabi/Sanskrit roots:
- Nit (⍍ā¨ŋāŠąā¨¤) = Daily, continuous, perpetual, or uninterrupted.
- Nem (⍍āŠā¨Ž / ⍍ā¨ŋā¨¯ā¨Ž) = Routine, spiritual discipline, oath, or divine practice.
Together, Nitnem Sahib refers to the mandatory collection of Gurbani hymns (Banis) designated by Sikh Gurus to be recited daily to keep the mind connected with the Supreme Almighty.

Recited around sunset at the conclusion of the day's work. Includes Rehras Sahib and Ardas.
