Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was the sixth Sikh Guru. In response to Mughal oppression, he introduced the concept of Miri-Piri, donning two swords representing temporal power and spiritual authority.

He constructed Sri Akal Takht Sahib (Throne of the Timeless One) directly opposite Sri Harmandir Sahib in 1609 CE as the seat of Sikh sovereignty.

Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji earned the title Bandi Chhor (Deliverer of Prisoners) when he secured the release of 52 innocent Hindu kings from Gwalior Fort on Diwali day.
