Life History & Divine Journey

Sri Guru Amar Das Ji became the third Sikh Guru at the age of 73, serving with legendary humility and energy. He made Goindwal Sahib a major Sikh center with the construction of Baoli Sahib.

Guru Amar Das Ji instituted the strict rule of "Pehle Pangat, Paachhe Sangat"—requiring everyone, including Mughal Emperor Akbar, to eat together in Langar before having an audience.

He was a pioneering social reformer who condemned the custom of Sati (widow burning) and encouraged widow remarriage and female empowerment.
