In the beginning I remember Bhagauti, the Lord (Whose symbol is the sword and then I remember Guru Nanak.
प्रिथम भगौती सिमरि कै गुर नानक लईं धिआइ ॥
pritham bhagauatee simar kai gur naanak leen dhiaae |
Then I remember Guru Arjan, Guru Amar Das and Guru Ram Das, may they be helpful to me.
फिर अंगद गुर ते अमरदासु रामदासै होईं सहाइ ॥
fir angad gur te amaradaas raamadaasai hoeen sahaae |
Then I remember Guru Arjan, Guru Hargobind and Guru Har Rai.
अरजन हरिगोबिंद नो सिमरौ स्री हरिराइ ॥
arajan harigobind no simarau sree hariraae |
(After them) I remember Guru Har Kishan, by whose sight all the sufferings vanish.
स्री हरिक्रिशन धिआईऐ जिस डिठे सभि दुखि जाइ ॥
sree harikrishan dhiaaeeai jis dditthe sabh dukh jaae |
Then I do remember Guru Tegh Bahadur, though whose Grace the nine treasures come running to my house.
तेग बहादर सिमरिऐ घर नउ निधि आवै धाइ ॥
teg bahaadar simariai ghar nau nidh aavai dhaae |
May they be helpful to me everywhere.1.

At first the Lord created the double-edged sword and then He created the whole world.
खंडा प्रिथमै साज कै जिन सभ सैसारु उपाइआ ॥
khanddaa prithamai saaj kai jin sabh saisaar upaaeaa |
He created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and then created the play of Nature.
ब्रहमा बिसनु महेस साजि कुदरति दा खेलु रचाइ बणाइआ ॥
brahamaa bisan mahes saaj kudarat daa khel rachaae banaaeaa |
He created the oceans, mountains and the earth made the sky stable without columns.
सिंध परबत मेदनी बिनु थंम्हा गगनि रहाइआ ॥
sindh parabat medanee bin thamhaa gagan rahaaeaa |
He created the demons and gods and caused strife between them.
सिरजे दानो देवते तिन अंदरि बादु रचाइआ ॥
siraje daano devate tin andar baad rachaaeaa |
O Lord! By creating Durga, Thou hast caused the destruction of demons.
तै ही दुरगा साजि कै दैता दा नासु कराइआ ॥
tai hee duragaa saaj kai daitaa daa naas karaaeaa |
Rama received power from Thee and he killed the ten-headed Ravana with arrows.
तैथों ही बलु राम लै नाल बाणा दहसिरु घाइआ ॥
taithon hee bal raam lai naal baanaa dahasir ghaaeaa |
Krishna received power from Thee and he threw down Kansa by catching his hair.
तैथों ही बलु क्रिसन लै कंसु केसी पकड़ि गिराइआ ॥
taithon hee bal krisan lai kans kesee pakarr giraaeaa |
The great sages and gods, even practising great austerities for several ages
बडे बडे मुनि देवते कई जुग तिनी तनु ताइआ ॥
badde badde mun devate kee jug tinee tan taaeaa |
None could know Thy end.2.
किनी तेरा अंतु न पाइआ ॥२॥
kinee teraa ant na paaeaa |2|
The saintly Satyuga (the age of Truth) passed away and the Treta age of semi-righteousness came.
साधू सतजुगु बीतिआ अध सीली त्रेता आइआ ॥
saadhoo satajug beetiaa adh seelee tretaa aaeaa |
The discord danced over all the heads and Kal and Narad sounded their tabor.
नची कल सरोसरी कल नारद डउरू वाइआ ॥
nachee kal sarosaree kal naarad ddauroo vaaeaa |
Mahishasura and Sumbh were created for removing the pride of the gods.
अभिमानु उतारन देवतिआं महिखासुर सुंभ उपाइआ ॥
abhimaan utaaran devatiaan mahikhaasur sunbh upaaeaa |
They conquered the gods and ruled over the three worlds.
जीति लए तिन देवते तिह लोकी राजु कमाइआ ॥
jeet le tin devate tih lokee raaj kamaaeaa |
He was called a great hero and had a canopy moving over his head.
वडा बीरु अखाइ कै सिर उपर छत्रु फिराइआ ॥
vaddaa beer akhaae kai sir upar chhatru firaaeaa |
Indra was turned out of his kingdom and he looked towards the Kailash mountain.
दिता इंद्रु निकाल कै तिन गिर कैलासु तकाइआ ॥
ditaa indru nikaal kai tin gir kailaas takaaeaa |
Frightened by the demons, the element of fear grew enormously in his heart
डरि कै हथो दानवी दिल अंदरि त्रासु वधाइआ ॥
ddar kai hatho daanavee dil andar traas vadhaaeaa |
He came, therefore to Durga.3.
पास दुरगा दे इंद्रु आइआ ॥३॥

One day Durga came for a bath.
इक दिहाड़े नावण आई दुरगसाह ॥
eik dihaarre naavan aaee duragasaah |
Indra related to her the story agony:
इंद्र बिरथा सुणाई अपणे हाल दी ॥
eindr birathaa sunaaee apane haal dee |
“The demons have seized from us our kingdom."
छीन लई ठकुराई साते दानवी ॥
chheen lee tthakuraaee saate daanavee |
“They have proclaimed their authority over all the three worlds."
लोकी तिही फिराई दोही आपणी ॥
lokee tihee firaaee dohee aapanee |
“They have played musical instruments in their rejoicings in Amaravati, the city of gods."
बैठे वाइ वधाई ते अमरावती ॥
baitthe vaae vadhaaee te amaraavatee |
“All the demons have caused the flight of the gods."
दिते देव भजाई सभना राकसां ॥
dite dev bhajaaee sabhanaa raakasaan |
“None hath gone and conquered Mahikha, the demon."
किने न जिता जाई महखे दैत नूं ॥
kine na jitaa jaaee mahakhe dait noo |
“O goddess Durga, I have come under Thy refuge.”4.
तेरी साम तकाई देवी दुरगसाह ॥४॥

Listening to these words (of Indra), Durga laughed heartily.
दुरगा बैण सुणंदी हसी हड़हड़ाइ ॥
duragaa bain sunandee hasee harraharraae |
She sent for that lion, who was she devourer of demons.
ओही सीहु मंगाइआ राकस भखणा ॥
ohee seehu mangaaeaa raakas bhakhanaa |
She said to gods, “Do not worry mother any more.”
चिंता करहु न काई देवा नूं आखिआ ॥
chintaa karahu na kaaee devaa noo aakhiaa |
For killing the demons, the great mother exhibited great fury.5.
रोह होई महा माई राकसि मारणे ॥५॥
roh hoee mahaa maaee raakas maarane |5|

The infuriated demons came with the desire of fighting in the battlefield.
राकसि आए रोहले खेत भिड़न के चाइ ॥
raakas aae rohale khet bhirran ke chaae |
The swords and daggers glisten with such brilliance that the sun cannot be seen.6.
लसकन तेगां बरछीआं सूरजु नदरि न पाइ ॥६॥
lasakan tegaan barachheean sooraj nadar na paae |6|

Both the armies faced each other and the drums, conches and trumpets sounded.
दुहां कंधारा मुहि जुड़े ढोल संख नगारे बजे ॥
duhaan kandhaaraa muhi jurre dtol sankh nagaare baje |
The demons came in great rage, decorated with swords and armour.
राकसि आए रोहले तरवारी बखतर सजे ॥
raakas aae rohale taravaaree bakhatar saje |
The warriors were facing the war-front and none of them knows to retrace his steps.
जुटे सउहे जुध नूं इक जात न जाणन भजे ॥
jutte sauhe judh noo ik jaat na jaanan bhaje |
The brave fighters were roaring in the battlefield.7.
